Other than the Ticker, there are a few ways you can easily keep up with your RSS feeds. Utilize the Feeds in the sidebar or Feed bar.
To register RSS in the Favorites, see Registering RSS feeds to Favorites.

From Feed Bar

Go to View > Toolbars > Feed Bar to display it in the Toolbar.

From Sidebars

Click Feed in the Sidebar (go to View > Sidebars > Feed to display it in the Sidebar).

You can also change the viewing style from the View drop-down list.
